Chip Hill now has his own page for his poetry. Check it out at The Poetry of
 Chip Hill.
“I just released my 5th book in the Cloudland series, Battle For Cloudland, https://www.amazon.com/dp/1733873988.  And check out my new and improved website (same address)https://www.chip-hill.com.”
Chip has three new essays for us this issue.
Always interested in writing, he pursued it more actively in his retirement years. He presently has five children’s books published and available through Amazon: Cloudland, Return to Cloudland, Beyond Cloudland, Cloudlands & Darklands, and Battle for Cloudland.
In addition to his children’s books, Chip has a book of essays covering a wide range of subjects,
Thoughts from an Observationist: Recorded from 2014-2021.
A current and major project for Chip is his musical,
Finding, about a teenage girl trying to filter out the noise in her life to discern her feelings about God.
It premiered in College Station in April, performed by the Brazos Valley TROUPE, and Chip is looking forward to performing the play at other venues.
Chip has a new poem for us.
SATURDAY MORNING

In a corner of the garden, where only one flower grows
There a little boy found a nest inside a coiled-up water hose
One egg it had, he sure was glad
For he knew something that nobody else knows.

And then the little boy, he took the egg away,
He took it to his Mommy, and then the little boy say,
“Mommy, Mommy dear, look what I have here,
This is gonna be a pretty little bird some day.”

“Go and take it to the nest, my darling little Jim,
The mother bird will want it back,” that’s what his Mommy told him,
“Hold it in your hand, my little man,”
And away he went for the nest by the flower’s stem.

He wasn’t very careful and the little boy fell down,
Then he looked up to see the yellow, all runnin’ round,
Broken on the lawn, the nice egg was gone,
And the great big tears were falling to the ground.

“Oh Mommy dear come look and see what I have done,
The pretty white shell is broken, the egg dryin’ in the sun,
I feel so bad, and the mother bird will be sad,
I’ve gone and taken her only one.”

In a corner of a garden, where only one flower stands,
There’s a dusty nest and a note, written by a little hand,
“Your egg is cracked, and my tears couldn’t bring it back…
But Mommy said that maybe you would understand.”

The other day I was pleased to receive an email from Alice Hein Schiel, ex-student and friend of mine. I had invited Alice to share some of her writing with Old Art Guy years ago. She has agreed to not only share examples of her own poetry, “Little Chick-a-dee” and“Pinnacle of Life,” but also the poetry of two of her siblings: Sarah Hein Munoz’s “I Recommend Jesus,” and

“Return of the Yegua, 2003” by Tilman Lloyd Hein.
When Alice informed me a few years ago that she was writing a book, Nora Mae, a Remarkable, Insignificant Person---her mother's life story---I wasn’t shocked. She, along with her sister Sarah, were excellent writers when they were in school in Somerville.
Alice’s book won the John E. Weaver Excellent Reads Award for Non-Fiction Biography. Her book gives a historical picture of life in Burleson County, Texas, from 1916 to 2011.
Alice has now published three books and enjoys speaking to book clubs, library groups, church groups, and schools. She went on to write and to publish two more books: Old Yellowed Hat and Pen of Gold: and Other Poems and Essays to Inspire.

Her books are also listed in the Book Store.

I have four new essays this issue: that brings the total of my essays to 515.
My book, Old Guy: Folks I Like, is available now for $10.00. The title pretty much tells the whole story, and it’s pretty fat---forty-eight essays.
I’ve just added one new essay to the book: “Eddie Faust” about an ex-student who passed away. It’s a good read, and you will be a better person for having read it...more or less.
My new book Old Guy Does Fiction and Poetry and a Few Essays is finally available . There is both a soft cover ($10.00) and a hard cover ($15.00) available. “Buy it, read it, enjoy it.” The book contains eight fictional works, twenty-four poems, and
fifteen essays.
Even I like this book.
My old new book, Old Guy Pontificates on Art and Words is available at Amazon. The cost has been reduced to $10.00. Notice the John Grant art work on the cover.
Don’t forget about my old new book, Old Guy: I’m Still Here which has also been reduced to $10.00.
By the way, my good friend, John Grant, provided the cover art. Thanks, John.
My first book was titled Old Guy Has Final Word: It’s All about Me. I put that book together when I was extremely ill and suspected I probably wouldn’t be around long. Well, it turns out that I’m still here and have written over 500 essays.
My first book, Old Guy Has Final Word, is still available at Amazon I’ve added a Kindle version. My book has been picked up by Barnes and Noble. The book is a collection of essays suitable to be read by both young and old, and it has been reduced to $10 for the soft cover and is only $5.00 for the Kindle version.

Wayne Edwards has another humorous poem this month:
Consider the ‘Possum
by Wayne Edwards

Consider the possum,
About whom much is said.
When life gets too tedious,
Mrs. ‘Possum plays dead.
She carries her children
All around, in her pouch.
When they kick and they fight,
It has got to be OUCH!
But when climbing in trees,
And her four feet all fail,
And most others would fall,
She hangs on by her tail.
Some people say flower,
The cultured say blossom.
It’s that kind of people
That calls her opossum.
This marsupial’s been here
A lot longer than most.
She’ll probably be here
After we are all toast.
But back to our ‘possum,
There is one well-known fact,
When she’s in character,
Nothing breaks up her act.
You can tease and kick her,
Even toss her around.
You can cover her up
In a hole in the ground.
Even though her chances
Of escaping are few,
She’s still smug in the fact
That she’s fooled me and you.
