Alice Hein Schiel, the tenth child of Hugo and Nora Mae Hein, graduated from Somerville High School in 1971. In University Interscholastic League writing  competitions she won first place in District and Regionals, netting a four year scholarship in journalism to any state university, but felt impressed to attend Midwest Bible Institute where she received an Associate's degree in Bible and ministry. She married Bill Schiel in 1973. Alice later obtained Bachelor and Master's degrees in education from Sam Houston State University. She and Bill reside in Decker Prairie, Texas and are the proud parents of four married children and twelve grandchildren.

Alice taught Christian education classes for thirty-two years and public education (junior high teacher and college adjunct professor) for nineteen years. She retired in 2014 to write her first book Nora Mae, a Remarkable, Insignificant Person, which she dedicated to her high school English teacher John Pinkerton. The book is her mother's life story and won the John E. Weaver Excellent Reads Award for Non-Fiction Biography. It gives a historical picture of life in Burleson County, Texas from 1916 to 2011. Alice has now published three books and enjoys speaking to book clubs, library groups, church groups, and schools. The last two books include devotionals, poetry, and essays. Alice has served as pianist/keyboard player and singer for church Praise Team for 45 years. She has been a part of various musical performance groups over the years. She and her husband Bill enjoy travel and have driven to 48 of the 50 US states.
